During the period between March 27th 2017 and April 2nd 2017 members of the GRPD handled 270 calls for service, the highlights of which included:  

Officials at the Glen Rock High School have reported that during the month of March, a total of four students had reported cash stolen from the boy’s locker room.  The amounts varied from $10 to $445, which occurred while the students’ belongings were unattended in the locker room.  At the recommendation of the police department, the school is addressing security concerns to guard against theft.   Whether at a school locker room or a commercial gym, thefts of this type are on the rise throughout the region. It is recommended that no one leave valuables in an unlocked locker and avoid carrying large amounts of cash to the school or a gym.  Bring only that amount of money with you that you need for the day.

5:59 PM –  A Hawthorne resident reported that his bicycle was stolen from the bicycle rack at the NJ Transit Boro Hall Train Station.  The theft occurred sometime during the day, unknown person(s) cut a lock which had been used the secure the bicycle.

7:28 AM –  Representatives of Public Service Gas and Electric reported the theft of a portable generator valued at $ 1,075.  The generator was taken from a trailer which had been parked on the PSE&G right-of-way along Prospect Street near Rock Road.  The lock, which had been used the secure the trailer, was also found to be missing.  The detective bureau is conducting a follow-up investigation.

5:58 PM –  During the course of a motor vehicle stop on Maple Avenue at Rodney Street, Det. Mike Trover arrested a 20-year-old Orchard Park, NY man for possession of Marijuana.  The subject was transported to police HQ where he was charged with possession of Marijuana under 50 grams and released on his own recognizance pending an appearance in Glen Rock Municipal Court on April 11th, 2017.  The man was also issued traffic summonses for failure to wear seatbelts and possession of narcotics while operating a motor vehicle.

2:03 PM – P.O. John Tarantino stopped a vehicle for tailgating on Route 208 North and subsequently found that the driver, a 25-year-old Denville man, was in possession of 51 glassine bags of Heroin (5 bundles and one loose bag), multiple empty glassine bags and two straws all with suspected Heroin residue.  The man was arrested and transported to police HQ where he was processed and charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia.  He was released pending an appearance before Superior Court, Central Judicial Processing in Hackensack on April 14th 2017.  He was also issued motor vehicle summons for following too closely, improper display of license plates and possession of narcotics while operating a motor vehicle.

4:23 PM –  A hit and run motor vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Ackerman Avenue and Prospect Street, no injuries were reported.  The vehicle which fled the scene was described as a blue Honda Odyssey operated by a male in his teens or early 20’s.  Anyone who witnessed the accident and may be able to provide additional information is asked to contact the Glen Rock Police Department at (201) 652-3800.

1:19 PM –  During the course of a motor vehicle stop on Harristown Road at Thornbury Avenue,                   P.O. T.J. Graziani arrested a 46-year-old Wayne, NJ man for possession of Marijuana.  The subject was transported to police HQ where he was charged with possession of Marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.   He was released on his own recognizance pending an appearance in Glen Rock Municipal Court on April 11th, 2017.  The man was also issued traffic summonses for failure to wear seatbelts and possession of narcotics while operating a motor vehicle.

04-01-2017

4:15 PM –  During the course of a motor vehicle stop on Maple Avenue near Harristown Road, P.O. John Tarantino arrested both the driver and passenger.  The passenger, a 23-year-old Pompton Plains man, was arrested for possession of Marijuana under 50 grams and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.  In his possession were THC oil brownies and THC oil treats in the form of apple jacks cereal. The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old Pompton Plans man, was found to have active traffic warrants out of Lincoln Park and Franklin Lakes.

Both men were transported to police HQ where they were processed.  The passenger was released on his own recognizance pending an appearance in Glen Rock Municipal Court on April 11th, 2017.  The driver was released after posting a total of $381 bail.  He was also issued a traffic summons for having an obstructed windshield.

04-02-2017

4:31 AM –  While investigating a motor vehicle accident at Prospect Street near Orchard Place, P.O. Sam Evans arrested a 25-year-old Garfield man for DWI. The incident was reported by AAA Road Service Dispatch after the driver attempted to have a tow truck remove the vehicle from the scene without reporting the accident. The driver’s vehicle was impounded and he was transported to Police HQ for processing.  He was subsequently released to a sober individual in accordance with John’s Law.  Additional summonses were issued for refusing to submit to breath tests, driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured vehicle, careless driving, failing to report a motor vehicle accident.

04-02-2017

1:03 PM – An Iona Place resident reported the loss of a gold ring with a blue sapphire star stone valued at $350.  The ring was reported lost during the day on April 1st somewhere in between Perry’s Florist on Harristown Road, The Glen Rock Athletic Club on Robinson and the Central Business District.  Anyone who may have found a ring fitting this description is asked to contact the Glen Rock Police Department at (201) 652-3800.

04-02-2017

1:55 PM – A Belmont Road resident reported discovering unauthorized credit accounts being opened in her name between March 25th and March 31st 2017.  An attempted $1,900 charge was at made a department store; a $6,000 piece of jewelry was purchased on a credit account opened in her name and an attempt was made to open an account with a computer company.  The matter has been referred to the detective bureau for review.

3:34 PM – A 23-year-old Greenbrier, Tennessee man was taken into custody by P.O. John Tarantino when the subject was found the be in possession of a 9MM Glock handgun and a magazine loaded with 15 hollow point rounds of ammunition.  The man had been stopped while operating a vehicle with an obstructed windshield on Route 208 North.  While the subject was determined to have a permit to carry a handgun in the State of Tennessee, the permit is not valid in New Jersey.  At the direction of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, preliminary charges were filed against the subject for possession of unlawful ammunition and additional charges may be filled following further review by the Prosecutor’s Office.  At the time of the arrest legal questions arose over the way with weapon was transported and its proximity to the ammunition.  There is also the issue of the weapon being transported over state lines which is under investigation.

The subject was processed and released on his own recognizance pending an appearance before Superior Court, Central Judicial Processing in Hackensack on April 14th, 2017.  The weapon and ammunition were confiscated as evidence.
