Last Wednesday Night Something
By: Simon Toffell
July 29th 2015, on a nice hot summer night, Glen Rockers came together for a night of swimming piazzas and games at the last Wednesday night pool
The weather could not have been more perfect with temps being the hottest they have been all summer.
The lifeguards estimated 175-200 people participated in the Wednesday Night festivities because of the tempatures hitting 103 degrees at 7:00pm. This was the highest number of participants in at least 15 years. The last time it was that packed for a Wednesday night, was 2000 when people did not need badges to get in to the Wednesday event.
All the pizzas were gone in just under 1 hr.
Because of the extreme heat, Game Organizer Simon Toffell, made the decision that all games would be in the pool and not on the grass. The Wednesday night game of the week was 2 games of volleyball in the pool. The games had a record amount of kids playing. Each volleyball game had 40 or more kids of mixed ages. It was a sight to behold and showed what makes Glen Rock such a nice town to call home.
Wednesday Night Something was started by the GR Drug Alliance in 1989. By the 1990s it was a town hit for Many Wednesday pool nights and continues to be a hit today. The new generation of Wednesday Something brought around the sports games. They became an instant hit with the kids.
To the kids who helped ref the games last night a big thank you has to go out to them they was a big help to everyone else who took time out of there Wed nights to help thank you.
Don’t forget the Wed Night is on Facebook
